In Loving Memory of Dr. Leland David Katz, (Lanny).
With deep sadness, recognition for a life well lived, and hearts full of gratitude, we announce the death of our beloved Lanny on July 24, 2026 in his home for 50 years in Tarzana, California. He was born on Wednesday, April 30, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois.
He was an admirable dentist, LACMA art docent, and audiophile. To his inner circle, he was simply Lanny, a cherished friend who truly enjoyed sharing life's pleasures in particular art, wine, fine food, travel, teaching, and thrifting.
His life was defined by an insatiable curiosity that led him to explore the world, enriching his spirit with every new destination. He created unforgettable memories filled with connection, laughter, and deep conversation.
In his own way, he was a true philanthropist. His generosity didn't seek external recognition; when the opportunity presented itself he led, supported, and guided others to improved life experiences.
His death leaves a profound void in the communities in which he belonged.
Lanny loved his first wife, Alice, who passed away at the far too young age of 61. His legacy includes two children Josh and Michael, and four grandchildren: Sophia, Abraham and Alita & Luca.
His legacy of love, joy, and presence remains untouched in the hearts of his second wife Ixela (previously Iczel), his companion for the last 20 years, and his step-son Joshua Gomez-Santizo as well as the extended family he joined.
His journey continues in the music he loved, the paths he traveled, and in the deep love he seeded within each of us.
